Let's Get To Know Electronic Ghost Machine


1- Where did you grow up? Maryland, outside of the DC area 2- What is one of the first songs you remember liking as a kid? ​ My dad was a big Beatles fan. One of the first LPs I listened to a lot was his copy of Magical Mystery tour. Thinking back it was nice he let me play it as a tiny kid I probably scratched the album all to hell haha. It was very cool that I was exposed to the Beatles and George Martin's amazing and experimental production on that album. To this day it’s a favorite of mine. 3- What influenced you to get into music? Haha good question I’ve never thought of it that way exactly. I can tell you I started playing drums in first grade (all I had was a practice pad and sticks). A friend of mine had a little garage band at around 13 and he invited me to play on their drummers kit ( I didn’t have drums of my own yet). The experience of playing drums with live players pretty much changed everything for me. It had a giant effect on me…but I guess I always loved music and felt connected to it. 4- At what age did you start playing/singing? I got serious about playing drums when I was about 14. 5- If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself after finishing school? At that time I was playing in bands in the DC area. We should’ve moved to NYC, LA or some other town with a bigger music scene. Because some decent sized bands came out of the DC hardcore scene we talked ourselves into staying in that area for longer than we should have. But everything happens for a reason. I guess the advice would be ‘don’t give up being creative’ whether you’re a musician or artist or whatever. 6- What are some of your favorite songs at the moment? I’ve really been enjoying 'It’s Jazzy' and 'Brown Paper Bag' by Roni Size recently. Also 'Warrior’s Dance' by the Prodigy. 'Bring the Pain - Chemical Brother Remix', with Method Man and The Chemical Brothers is awesome…oooh man so good. 7- Do you listen to your own music? ​ All the time haha. I make music that I like first, and hope that if I like it some other people will too. 8- Which musician would you like to collaborate with next? I’ve never collaborated with other artists (other than in bands I guess), I’m open to the idea if the right person came around. I don't have anyone in mind. I wouldn’t mind doing some weird remix of something from Earthbong, which is a totally different style of music, kind ultra slow heavy doom metal band. I like the idea of combining electronic/industrial/DnB with some of their heavy riffs. Ok now you got me thinking. 9- What is one of your favorite memories so far in your music career? It was cool to be featured on KWVA, U of Oregon radio show a couple of times. Being compared to Roni Size on some songs and The Prodigy on others (both legends) was a pretty cool honor. I guess some of my favorite memories include my family and how much they genuinely love my music. They are the first to check out any new tracks. Any time people are genuinely listening and enjoying is what means the most to me. 10- What advice would you give to someone that is just starting to get into music? I think in the current day environment with social media there can be a real tendency to modify your creative output based on what people ‘like’ the most. I think that’s a mistake. You have to be true to what you love first. I’d rather create music that a few people really love than a lot of people think is more or less pretty good. Don’t polish all your sharp corners off to try to be liked. Also this is maybe the most important: Just like most people, half of the music I love a lot of people don't like at all. Why should I be surprised when some people don't like what I’m doing? It wasn’t made for them and that’s totally cool. So keep creating.
